Microsoft Vision of the Future →
Nice short video showing Microsoft’s vision of the future chock full of touch screens, augmented displays and touch/haptic surfaces. Some of it already seems dated given the need for gestures and forced analog metaphors, but some interesting concepts overall.

IDEO and BBV look into the future of ATMs →
A colleague sent this link to the office recently. It has some great moments of innovation, but I question the choice of a frosted glass “privacy divider”, somewhat self-defeating in its purpose. And there’s a very awkward placement of the PIN entry at approximately 2:12-2:15 of the clip. :-!

Utilizing Social Media to Boost Tourism →
IMHO, Eden Prairie ain’t got nothin’ on Philly, but social media affords towns like this Minneapolis suburb the opportunity to promote its own tourism (its mall was used to film Mallrats, and it’s home to world champion curler Allison Pottinger. Trivia via wikipedia). Currently, this is enabled through a partnership with Gowalla. Next stop, Tenney?

Wired Magazine's iPad app →
Wow, who needs a Kindle anymore? While it set the bar for the age of mobile apps, the iPad accommodates true interaction so much better, as shown in this video clip, demonstrating the recent release of Wired’s iPad application.

Revisiting the basics
Sometimes, it’s good to be reminded of the basics: A quick refresher course on how to make sure you and your client get what’s needed to keep things progressing. Keeping things simple, and taking the holistic approach and breaking it down for your team allows everyone to see how each part affects the whole.

Scott Hansen a.k.a. ISO50 is an incredible designer working out of California. This is a 15 minute video compiled of clips from a lecture he gave at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Hansen has an acutely developed style that is inspired by slow-shutter photography, vintage European graphic design, and images from nature, among other themes. In his lecture he discusses his creative process,...

Excellent read, reiterating the importance of listening to what the user audience needs, and wants… and how to tell the difference.
